As the name applies, Sandkås has much sand - especially by the beautiful beaches, which hide between the impressive cliffs. The holiday house area is situated only 300 metres from the sea. It is possible to buy groceries in the area. Enjoy the magnificent landscape in the northern part of the popular holiday island Bornholm, which offers numerous, unique attractions. Rønne, the 'capital' of the island, is situated only 27 km from Sandkås, and here you can not only experience the cosy atmosphere by the boating harbour, but also shop, visit a restaurant or drink a cup of coffee in an idyllically situated café.
Beautifully situated between the cliffs you will find more lovely bathing beaches as well as a bathing bridge. About 6 km towards north, you will find the nice beach of Sandvig, which is very suitable for children. The beach has fine sand, a sandy bottom and shallow water. By this beach you will also find an ice cream stall, a café and tennis courts.
On the northern part of the island, by the amazing nature area 'Hammerknuden', you can let yourselves be fascinated by the scenic rocky coasts, the rift valleys and the rocky caves.
A couple of kilometres towards south you will find the rift valley 'Ravnedalen', which contains a bronze age mound, rock engravings and monoliths.
By 'Helligdomsklipperne', between Gudhjem and Allinge, steps lead you down through a gorge. The rugged rock formations in the water contribute to creating dramatic sceneries.
Towards north-west you will find 'Døndalen' with a stream, which creates an up to 25 metres high waterfall in spring - Døndalsfaldet.
Almindingen is one of Denmark's most beautiful forests. Different marked routes lead you through the forest, where you can experience the 162 metres high hill 'Rytterknægten', beautiful forest lakes and the largest rift valley of the island. Paradisbakkerne by Neksø is a hilly and rocky landscape with many walking paths.
The many marked walking, bicycle and bridle paths enable you to experience the scenic nature landscape and some of the rare sights of the island.
Anglers can fish both from the shore and on the sea. Furthermore, more Put & Take fishponds as well as 3 golf courses are available on the island.
Every summer i.a. runs and cycle races are arranged around the island.
If you fancy rock climbing or bird observation, Bornholm is also an ideal holiday destination. Follow f.x. the path 'Kystredningsstien', which leads from Sandkås towards north to Allinge across the granite cliffs along the coast.
Follow the path 'Kystredningsstien' towards Allinge and experience the many merchant's houses. Some of the granite cliffs have been blasted away and given place for the unique harbour of Allinge. Here you will find restaurants and a smokehouse, and throughout the summer you can sense the incredibly vivid atmosphere here. From here you can also sail to the beautiful island Christiansø.
By 'Madsebakke' outside Allinge, the fascinating bronze age rock engravings from the period 1800-500 B. C., which symbolises the sun, ships as well as foot and wheel symbols, can be observed.
The round churches are the landmark of Bornholm. The characteristic and whitewashed churches, which are more than 800 years old, have served as defence, storage of supplies and as church houses. The 4 most famous churches are: Østerlars, Olsker, Nylars and Nyker.
A couple of kilometres north of Sandkås, Hammershus - the impressive old castle from around the year 1250, is situated. The castle ruin rises from a steep rock hillock on the most northern tip of Bornholm. Hammershus is the largest castle ruin in Northern Europe and is definitely worth a visit.
The art museum 'Bornholms Kunstmuseum' can be found by Gudhjem, in on of the most scenic areas of the island. Here works of famous Bornholm painters as well as theme exhibitions with art, design and handicraft can be observed (6 km).
'Bornholms Middelaldercenter' in Gudhjem is a historic experience centre with a live environment from the Middle Ages (the period 1350-1450) with people, animals, houses, water mills and a fortified castle mounds (14 km).
'JOBOLAND Brændesgårdshaven' in Svaneke is a former farm, but today a popular nature and amusement park with a unique profusion of flowers and numerous attractions (26 km).
