Faaborg offers an idyllic market town environment with cobbled streets, beautiful town houses and old merchant's houses, a charming centre, a cosy and vivid harbour, more craftsmen, many sights as well as good shopping opportunities and various restaurants. The town is surrounded by beaches and lovely nature areas, like f.x. the forests 'Alléskoven' and 'Pipstorn Skov', the nature area 'Svanninge Bakker' and the bird sanctuary 'Bøjden Nor'.
You will find leisure activities for the whole family in the town and the area, but if you wish to experience some more, the distance to large towns and sights is short because of Faaborg's central location.
The beach 'Klinten Strand' in Faaborg is a really lovely sandy beach with a sandy bottom, deep water and Blue Flag.
The beach 'Hesseløje Strand', equally by Faaborg, has fine sand, shallow water as well as a sandy/stony bottom. With its shallow water the beach is very suitable for children.
Around Faaborg you will find more, small bathing beaches. Windsurfers will find extremely good conditions at these beaches.
The beach 'Sinebjerg Strand' is a good and child-friendly bathing beach, and here you can rent boats and kayaks (5 km towards south).
Faaborg is surrounded by green and fertile nature with hills, forest and water. The two nearby forests, 'Alléskoven' and 'Pipstorn Skov', both contain a number of long barrows, grave mounds and bronze age mounds.
The area 'Svanninge Bakker', also named 'De Fynske Alper' (the Alps of Funen), is situated just north of Faaborg. The area is a scenic and undulating forest landscape with heathery hills and a network of bicycle and walking paths. Furthermore, you will find a large nature playground as well as a gazebo with an exhibition about 'Svanninge Bakker'.
The preserved area 'Bøjden Nor' is a bird sanctuary, where about 50 different species of birds can be observed. Along the salt meadow you can follow a marked walking path, and from an observation shelter you can experience the bird life at close range (10 km).
In Faaborg you can play tennis in scenic surroundings, play petanque and minigolf as well as make use of the town's swimming baths with i.a. hot water pool, sauna and solarium.
The area, surrounding Faaborg, is very scenic and ideal for bicycle trips and walks along the many paths.
The nearby beaches invite bathing as well as beach activities.
All along the shores of Horne Land you will find good conditions for windsurfing.
The area is ideal for anglers, as the opportunities for coastal fishing are really good on Horne Land. You can also go deep-sea fishing with a fishing vessel from Faaborg.
Golf players can make use of the course of Faaborg Golfklub, which is Denmark's most beautiful courses with 18 challenging holes.
If you wish to sail on the Little Belt, you can rent boats and kayaks in Sinebjerg, 5 km towards west.
From Faaborg you can go with the ferry to the islands Ærø, Avernakø, Lyø and Bjørnø.
The cosy, old market town contains a number of interesting sights. Visit f.x. the prison museum 'Faaborg Arrests Fængselsudstilling' - Denmark's only, publicly accessible county gaol with an exhibition about punishment from the Middle Ages and up till today. In the belfry 'Faaborg Klokketårn', the town's landmark, sepulchral monuments and an old hearse are exhibited. The miniature town 'Faaborg Miniby' is a copy of Faaborg as it appeared in 1900 in the scale 1:10. 'Faaborg Museum for Fynsk Malerkunst' exhibits a beautiful collection of paintings and sculptures, created by Funen artists. Furthermore, you can experience the beautiful merchant's house 'Den Voigtske Gård', the remains of a mediaeval fortress and the flower garden 'Blomsterhaven Strandlyst'. At the castle 'Hvedholm Slot' in Faaborg you will find a wine cellar and a shop with handicrafts.
The water mill 'Kaleko Vandmølle' is Denmark's oldest functioning watermill and scenically situated in its original surroundings (3 km).
The beautiful castle 'Egeskov Slot' by Kværndrup is characterized as one of the best preserved Renaissance forts in Europe. See the beautiful gardens, a giant maze and more museums here (23 km).
'Frydenlund Fuglepark' by Tommerup is a lovely nature park with 700 birds from the whole world, waterhole, aviaries and a 2 km long walking path (32 km).
Visit Odense, the hometown of H.C. Andersen, - a modern and evocative town with a number of leisure potentialities (39 km).
In Odense Zoo you can see a special chimpanzee department and a large 'Oceanarium'.
'Den Fynske Landsby' by Odense is an open-air museum, showing a Funen village environment from around the year 1850.
The railway museum 'Danmarks Jernbanemuseum' is a large museum with games, technique, experiences, discoveries and nostalgia.
