Experience the vivid activity and quiet charm of Lohals, which is surrounded by recreational forests and inviting beaches. Both the town and the harbour offer a lovely atmosphere. In the evocative marina you can dine, enjoy the sight of the many boats and buy fresh fish from the local fishermen. It is possible to buy groceries in Lohals, which besides shops and restaurants also contains a safari museum and a nature centre.
When you spend your holiday in Lohals, you can swim, walk in the forests, drive on bicycle, sail, fish or visit some of Langeland¿s many interesting sights.
A number of artists reside on Langeland, and you can visit them in their galleries and workshops all over the island.
The nearest larger town is Rudkøbing, the 'capital' of Langeland, which is situated 29 km towards south. Here you can shop and go sightseeing in the old and well-preserved market town.
Immediately north of Lohals you can swim by a wide, white and sandy beach with sandy bottom and Blue Flag, which is situated right by the wood of gnarled trees 'Troldeskoven'. Every summer a bathing jetty is set out here. The beach is very suitable for swimming, sunbathing and beach activities of every kind.
Sea, green areas and beachwoods surround Lohals. Just north of Lohals you will find the wood of gnarled trees 'Troldeskoven', which is a preserved nature forest with more forest lakes, and behind the town, the beautiful wood areas 'Skiften', 'Pebermosen' and 'Vojremosen' are situated. Here you can walk and enjoy the silence of the woods. Towards south you will find the small dog wood 'Vestrevænge', where the dogs can run around without a leash.
The forest 'Øster and Vester Prisskov' as well as 'Øster and Vester Stigtehave' separate Lohals from the town Hov towards north. Hov is the most wooded part of Langeland and the scenic landscape is very undulating here.
Marked routes lead you through the forests and past historic places with i.a. banks and terraces. On the western shore, opposite Hov, the 14 m high cliff 'Frankeklint' is situated.
The nature of Langeland is characterized by forest, fields and scenic landscapes, which are suitable for walks and bicycle trips.
Anglers have good opportunities here, as it is possible to catch sea trouts directly from the shore. Furthermore, deep-sea fishing trips are arranged with a fishing vessel, which sails out from the harbour of Lohals. If you wish to sail out on your own, you can rent both motorboats and dinghies in Lohals. By Tranekær you can fish in the fishpond 'Spodsbjerg Lystfiskersø' (22 km).
Because of the many forests, the northern part of Langeland is an ideal holiday destination for nature lovers, who wish to experience the island on foot or on bicycle. Bring f.x. you bicycle along on the ferry, which sails from Lohals to Lundeborg on Funen.
By Humble on the southern part of Langeland (41 km) golf players can test the course of 'Langlands Golf Klub'. It is also possible to play on the scenic golf course by Svendborg (46 km). If you are game for diving, you can visit the dive centre 'Dykkercenter Langeland' in Rudkøbing.
The annual music festival 'Langelandsfestival' takes place in July.
'Hollænderhuset', the former haunt for the men of the forests, today functions as a nature and information centre (2 km).
The red castle 'Tranekær Slot' (22 km) is highly situated on a hill with a view of the town with its old half-timbered houses. An area of the castle park is called 'Ticon', and here artists exhibit their nature art. At the souvenir museum 'Souvenariet' by the castle you can experience souvenirs from all over the world.
The preserved mill 'Tranekær Slotsmølle' from 1846 is still running, and when the wind is right, ecological grain grinded.
'Tobaksladen' by Tranekær was used for drying tobacco leaves during World War 2. The barn has been restored in the original style and the entry is free.
Visit the 700-years old marked town Rudkøbing, which has preserved its original beautiful houses. See the old quarter, the idyllic and narrow streets with the uneven cobblestones, the cosy marina 'Rudkøbing Skudehavn' and the traffic harbour 'Rudkøbing Trafikhavn'.
'Langeland Museum' in Rudkøbing exhibits ancient collections with i.a. weapons, riding gear, silver coins, glass and silver. Rudkøbing also offers the museum 'Rudkøbing Byhistoriske Arkiv', 'Det Gamle Apotek' (the old pharmacy), the shipping museum 'Søfartsudstilling', the garden 'Den Gamle Have' and 'Skovsgård' (a museum for servant, carriages and forestry tools).
The former military installations 'Langelandsfortet' today function as a museum with canons, bunkers and an exhibition about the cold war (50 km).
