At the east coast of Funen, right by the Great Belt Bridge, you will find the cosy market town Nyborg. The town is famous for its castle, its historic town centre with the pretty old houses in different colours, its rampart plays, its charming marina and much more. And by the holiday home area of Nyborg you can swim by a great sandy beach. Near Nyborg you can visit scenic nature areas, golf courses and sights for everyone in the family. The central location in Denmark ensures short distances to the big attractions of the country.
In Nyborg, close to the Great Belt Bridge, you will find one of the widest bathing beaches on Funen. Here the whole family can gambol by the great wide bathing beach with fine sand. The button is equally sandy. During the high season a lifeguard keeps an eye on the swimmers.
Close to Nyborg you will find more lovely forest areas - among others three dog forests. The tranquil and cosy forest Christianslundskov is located just north of Nyborg. Between Nyborg and Bovense, towards north, you can follow the paths in the forest Teglværksskoven, which lead directly to the water at more places.
Just south of Kerteminde you will find the forest Storskoven and the 900 metres long cliff 'Lundsgård Klint', from which you can see the coast of Sealand in clear weather. Behind the cliff you will find a lovely forest area with many walking paths and a mound 'Jomfruhøjen' (18 km).
To the north of Kerteminde the isthmus Hindsholm is located. It offers scenic and unique nature with among other things beaches, hills, picturesque villages, large manor houses and more ancient monuments (30 km).
The water park Nyborg Svømme- og Badeland offers facilities for the whole family. Here you can avail yourselves of 2 pools, springboards, children’s pool, play equipment for children, sauna and hot tub among other things.
Golfers can enjoy the many scenically located golf courses on Funen, and one of Denmark’s best golf courses, the beautiful park and forest course Sct. Knuds Golfklub, is located just north of Nyborg.
Anglers will find very good fishing opportunities along the shores of eastern Funen. A number of Put & Take fishponds are also available in the area. You can also go deep sea fishing with a cutter from Nyborg.
Eastern Funen has its own bicycle route (no. 40), which starts in Nyborg, follows the Great Belt and ends in Kerteminde. The route takes you through villages, woods, open landscapes and past a couple of manor houses.
The old quarter in Nyborg is a sight in itself with its beautiful renovated houses, the castle Nyborg Slot - Scandinavia’s oldest royal castle from the year 1170, as well as ramparts, which invite walks. Here you can also attend a show in Denmark’s oldest open-air theatre Nyborg Voldspil. At the culture-historical museum Mads Lerches Gård you can see an exhibition about the past in Nyborg.
You will find many castles and manor houses near Nyborg. Among others the renaissance castle Holckenhavn Slot, 5 km from Nyborg.
Near Lindeskov, 17 km from Nyborg, you can see 7 dolmens and a passage grave from the New Stone Age - among others Denmark’s longest long barrow of 160 metres.
In Kerteminde you can visit the marine centre Fjord- & Bælt centret and experience the mysteries of the sea - seen with the eyes of a diver from a 50 m long underwater tunnel (20 km). In Kerteminde you will also find Johannes Larsen Museet and the viking ship museum Ladby.
The beautiful castle Egeskov Slot is one of Europe’s best preserved renaissance island forts. Here you can experience beautiful gardens, a giant maze and more museums (30 km).
Visit the preserved island Sprogø, which is located in the middle of the Great Belt. Join a guided tour and experience the rich wildlife and a building, which formerly served as a girl’s community school, where young girls were places - often involuntary.
Viby on Hindsholm is one of the best-preserved villages on Funen with half-timbered houses and a newly renovated mill, which is running during the summer (27 km).
Visit Odense with Odense Zoo, the open-air museum Den Fynske Landsby and the home of H.C. Andersen (35 km).
