The old fishing hamlet Gjøl is a cosy, calm and scenically situated town by the Liim Fiord, about 25 km west of Aalborg.

On the peninsula Gjøl the marina, the church and the inn 'Gjøl Kro' are worth a visit. Gjøl is world-famous for its Gjøl-trolls and because of the novel by Hans Kirks 'Fiskerne' (the fishermen), which was written on the inn of Gjøl. Gjøl is surrounded by unspoiled nature, bird sanctuaries and the Liim Fiord. It is possible to buy groceries in Gjøl.
It is possible to swim in the Liim Fiord by the harbour of Gjøl, where you will find a bathing jetty.
If you prefer to swim in the North Sea, the popular holiday town Blokhus is situated 28 km north-west of Gjøl. Here you will find one of Denmark's widest and most lovely sandy beaches with Blue Flag. The dunes behind the beach provide you with sheltered hollows for sunbathing.
During the summer period lifeguards keep an eye on the bathers from their towers. You are allowed to bring your car to the beach.
The distance to the lovely, wide and more calm sandy beach by Rødhus is 29 km. The beach has the Blue Flag and you are allowed to bring your car to the beach. Because of the wind and the waves, the possibilities for surfing are good here.
Experience the unique sunset over the North Sea from the beach or the dunes. At all times of the year the beach invites walks in all kinds of weather.
A 3 km long dam connects Gjøl with Øland, where you will find some lovely forest areas.
'Gjøl Bredning' is a shallow area with a rich bird life. Here you can experience swans, gooses, various kinds of ducks aso., and the area is designate for a bird sanctuary. Equally, it is possible to experience seals in the Liim Fiord by Gjøl.
2-3 km from Gjøl lays 'Ulvedybet', a dyked inlet, which is a very significance resting place for wading birds.
24 km from Gjøl you will find 'Fosdalen' and 'Langdalen' - two large north-southbound valleys, which debouch into the 66 m high inland hillside 'Lien'. The area offers good possibilities for scenic hikes.
The surf possibilities are good by Gjøl, which is also the last good surfspot before the Kattegat. By the water, grass areas and a surf bridge are available.
It is possible to play golf at the course by 'Øland Golfklub', about 7 km from Gjøl, and in Åbybro, about 13 km from Gjøl, where you will find a lovely golf course.
Experience the yearly harbour party in Gjøl, which takes place in late August.
The castle 'Kokkedal Slot' is an idyllically situated manor house with three wings, which has been converted into a hotel and a restaurant.
At the manor house 'Oxholm' the abbey church, belonging to the manor house, is open to the public.
Aalborg is the 'capital' of northern Jutland. Here you will find art, culture, Denmark's oldest convent, pedestrian streets, the charming old town centre, the amusement street 'Jomfru Ane Gade' and various restaurants (25 km).
In the animal kingdom 'Aalborg Zoo' you can get close to 800 interesting animals.
In the amusement park 'Fårup Sommerland & Aquapark' by the holiday town Blokhus you can try out more than 50 exciting activities for the whole family. When the entry has been paid for, all activities are available for free (30 km).
The bathing towns Blokhus, Lønstrup and Løkken, which are situated along the North Sea coast, are always worth a visit.
