Helligsø is situated in the southern part of Thy by the Liim Fiord and with only a short distance to the North Sea.

The area, surrounding Helligsø, offers a varying nature. The rough, arid and wind-swept landscape by the North Sea is forming a sharp contrast to the vigorous nature around the inlet. However, both types of landscapes invite scenic nature experiences and good opportunities for leisure activities. Helligsø is an ideal holiday destination for the angler and the nature lover among others.
The town Hurup, which is situated 10 km north of Helligsø, is a lovely commercial town, and here you will find restaurants as well as good specialist shops and groceries.
A couple of km from Helligsø you will find the beach 'Draget Strand', which is very suitable for children because of its shallow water. The water is clear and the 1 km long beach and its bottom is sandy with many stones.
If you wish to experience the wide and white sandy beach of the North Sea, the beach of Agger Tange is situated only 14 km from Helligsø. The beach is about 100 metres wide and consists of both sand and stones. The water is clear and the bottom is sandy with rocks. The beach has the Blue Flag. You will find good bathing and sunbathing opportunities as the many groynes shelter the beach. However, the water is deep with occasional waves and currents.
The moor 'Ydby Hede' is a beautiful nature area with a number of walking and bicycle paths, which is situated a few km Helligsø.
On the opposite shore of Helligsø (11 km) the scenic area 'Dover Odde' and the forest 'Dover Plantage' are situated.
The nearby dune plantation 'Lodbjerg Klitplantage' is a 1,050 hectares area with forest, lakes as well as moor and dune areas. 5 different marked walking routes are available in this area.
Anglers will find good opportunities in the inlet, in the North Sea as well as in the lakes, streams and Put & Take fishponds of the area. It is very popular to fish from the groynes by Agger and in the fresh water lake 'Flade Sø'.
Equally, you will find good opportunities for walking and bicycle trips along the many marked routes in the scenic landscape, surrounding Helligsø.
Golf players can try out the good courses in f.x. Struer (32 km) and Lemvig (44 km).
In Hurup you can play tennis and make use of a swimming baths.
The ancient cemetery on the moor 'Ydby Hede' is Denmark's largest collection of barrows (6 km).
The Liim Fiord centre 'Limfjordscentret' in Doverodde is a 150-years old and very well-preserved merchant's house. Here you can have an authentic impression of the role of the merchant's house in those days. On the second floor of the building alternating exhibitions are displayed (11 km)
Enjoy a magnificent view of the landscape from the 37 metres high former grain silo in Doverodde.
The area Thy is rich in interesting museums and exhibitions by local craftsmen.
The flower park 'Jesperhus Blomsterpark' on the Liim Fiord island Mors is the largest flower park in Scandinavia with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo with i.a. beautiful tropical birds, pirate and play land as well as water world with various activities (38 km).
The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See among other things how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (54 km).
'Vejlerne', which is situated north-east of Skyum, is Northern Europe's largest bird sanctuary. Here you can observe the bird life from the many bird gazebos (about 70 km).
