In Vesterø Syd you will live in idyllic nature surroundings, right next to the popular Kongestrand and still close to the activities, shops and restaurants in Vesterø.
The holiday homes in Vesterø Syd are situated among the trees along the Strandvejen, that starts in Vesterø and ends at the island Stokken. Between Strandvejen and the sea is a flat and protected heathland that makes it possible to look out over the sea from several holiday homes.
Kongestranden is a wonderful, sandy beach and probably the most child-friendly beach, as the water is low all the way out to the third sandbank. The beach goes all the way along the holiday home area and is bounded by tall and sheltering dunes with lyme grass. Kongestranden invites you to go for a swim, relax, take a walk or practice kite and windsurfing.
Where Kongestranden ends in south, you find the 5 km long island, Stokken. Stokken is narrow and elongated with dunes, lyme grass and sandy beaches and only 50 metres from Læsø. On the outer face of the island you will find a beautiful, sandy bathing beach, Sdr. Nyland Strand, where you can easily find a quiet spot. But please note that suddenly the water gets deep.
Vesterø Syd is surrounded by woodland, heathland and beaches. To the south, you can wade out the 50 metres to Stokken through knee-high water. You may find blue mussels. The nature on Stokken is unspoiled and characterized by dunes, lyme grass and sandy beaches. There are many breeding birds and therefore the western part of the island is a reserve from 15th April to 15th July each year.
Right behind Vesterø you can see the scenic wetlands Kærene and Holtemmen, surrounded by heather and untouched woods. Here you can see a lot of rare plants and enjoy the blooming water lilies in the summer.
Behind Kærene is Læsø Klitplantage, a big dune area with heathland and woods. You can walk, cycle and ride on the paths and maybe see roe deer on your way. You can also walk the dog in the fenced-in dog part, exercise in the health area, have a barbecue and look for mushrooms in the autumn.
The protected nature resort Rønnerne has an impressive bird life and lots of rare plants.
Kongestranden and Stokken invite you to go for a swim and beach activities of any kind. But you could also take a bike trip to the nature resorts of Læsø and its attractions or go to Vesterø for shopping, eating and enjoying the atmosphere while eating a Læsø ice-cream.
In the area between Vesterø Syd and Rønnerne you can rent Icelandic horses and go for a ride on the beach or on Rønnerne.
Golfers could try out the courses of Læsø Seaside Golfklub at Østerby. The course is beautifully situated in the nature and has obtained 16 out of 20 possible stars in the Peugeot Golf Guide. The course is open to guest players.
Anglers can fish from the harbour of Vesterø or go out on sea with the cutter Seadog, that sails out from Vesterø. Seadog does also arrange seal safaris for the entire family.
The biggest attraction of the area is the wonderful beach and the calm nature in Vesterø Syd.
The church Vesterø Søndre Kirke, dating back to the Middle Ages, is situated in Vesterø Syd and has some beautiful late Gothic frescos from the beginning of the 16th century.
Visit the modern, Nordic spa resort Læsø Kurbad in Vesterø. Here you can enjoy various saline baths or a relaxing treatment with clay, salt and alga. If you need to be pampered and relax, this is just the right place.
At the Museumsgården close to Byrum, you can see an intact Læsø home from the end of the 19th century. The farm itself is a pretty and very well maintained seaweed farm with a seaweed roof of a thickness of a metre. Outside you can see a functioning post mill. See the old living rooms and exhibitions with paintings and Læsø costumes.
At Læsø salt works, you can see how salt is seethed in open iron pans in the seething huts. Listen to the seethers telling about the process and the history of the salt works. Buy freshly seethed salt and enjoy a pancake on the spot.
From the tower of the salt works you can see the protected natural resort Rønnerne. You can view the area at a short distance from the Rønner bus or from a horse-drawn carriage. Here you can spot a lot of birds and rare plants.
Close to the salt works is the child-friendly attraction Storhaven, where children can ride Icelandic horses and stroke the animals on the farm and do a lot of other things.
