Agger is an idyllic seaside town, which is located by the North Sea, right above the narrow bird sanctuary Agger Tange. Agger offers an active town life as well as cosy cafés and restaurants. Around the village nature is untouched and characterized by water, bird areas, moor and forest. Furthermore, the landscape contains a large concentration of ancient monuments. The Liim Fiord, the North Sea and the lake Flade Sø surround Agger on 3 sides, and for that reason the area is ideal for bathers and anglers. However bird enthusiasts as well as people, who are interested in culture and vegetation will find this area very interesting as well.
From the tongue Agger Tange you can go with the ferry to Thyborøn, and is it often possible to observe seals during the crossing.
The nearest larger town are Hurup (14 km), Thisted (38 km) and Hanstholm (51 km).
The lovely bathing beach is app. 100 metres wide and consists of both sand and stones. The beach offers good conditions for both swimming and sunbathing, sheltered by the many breakwaters. Furthermore, the wide and sandy beach invites various beach activities, like f.x. beach volley. The water is clear, however it gets deep rather quickly and waves as well as strong current can occur.
The beach of Agger has been awarded with the Blue Flag.
Agger is surrounded by sea, inlet and lakes as well as unspoiled nature with moor areas, dune plantations, bird sanctuaries and forests. Towards west you will find the roaring North Sea, towards east the Liim Fiord, towards north the 750 hectares large freshwater lake Flade Sø and towards south you will find the scenic and preserved tongue Agger Tange with the rich birdlife.
The shallow areas, the large lagoon lakes and the tidal flats on the eastern side of the tongue provide good breeding and feeding opportunities for many water birds. Furthermore, the tongue is an important resting place for many bird species during their spring and autumn flights. Agger Tange is quite simply a Paradise for nature lovers.
In the channel between tongue Agger Tange and the town Thyborøn you can experience a seal colony.
The area, which is abounding in water, offers extremely good fishing opportunities in the North Sea, in the Liim Fiord as well as in the freshwater lakes Flade Sø and Ørum Sø. Furthermore, the area contains more Put & Take fishponds. Deep-sea fishing trips to the reef Det Gule Rev are arranged from Hanstholm.
Golfers can test more beautiful courses in this area, and the nearest ones are available with Lemvig Golfklub (33 km) and Nordvestjysk Golfklub near Thisted (38 km).
The beach and the lovely nature of the area invite stays, picnics and leisure activities in nature. You can walk, ride, drive on bicycle, swim and engage yourselves in beach activities among other things.
In the old and restored houses 'De sorte huse' in Agger you can see an exhibition about the history of coast protection as well as varying displays with works, created by local artists.
In the nearly 200-years old fishing house in Agger you can experience how a fishing family lived in those days.
You can go with the ferry from Agger to Thyborøn, which forms a contrast to the other Liim Fiord towns because of its colonist style and rough nature.
The coastal centre 'Kystcentret' in Thyborøn is an interesting experience and communication centre for the whole family. Learn more about the 7,000 km long shore, which surrounds Denmark. In the aquarium JyllandsAkvariet in Thyborøn you can hold a crap in your hand, pat a shark on the head and stroke a flatfish.
'Svankjær lille Savværk' (a small sawmill) shows an exhibition of Danish paper collage, however carved in wood. See the result of the time-consuming and exactly executed piece of work and buy some, if you wish to (14 km).
The Liim Fiord centre 'Limfjordscentret' in Doverodde is a 150-years old and very well-preserved merchant's house. Here you can have an authentic impression of the role of the merchant's house in those days. On the second floor of the building alternating exhibitions are displayed (20 km).
Come close to the sea and its fascinating inhabitants. In the aquarium Nordsøakvariet in Vorupør you can experience fish and marine animal, caught by the fishermen of Vorupør (27 km).
Jesperhus Blomsterpark is Scandinavia's larges flower park with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo with beautiful tropical birds, pirate and play land and an aquapark (43 km).
Visit Hanstholm, where you will find the lighthouse Hanstholm Fyr and the bunker museum Bunkermuseet, which informs about World War II (50 km).
The open-air museum Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (75 km).
