Bunken in the northeasterly part of Jutland is a peaceful and cosy holiday home area in a scenic landscape with sandy beach, sea, dunes, plantations and the drifting dune Råbjerg Mile. Bunken is an ideal holiday destination if you wish to spend your vacation in tranquil and pretty surroundings, and still be close to leisure activities, interesting nature areas and sights for the whole family.
It is possible to buy groceries in the area, and 19 km from Bunken, Skagen offers a number of shops, restaurants, leisure activities, museums and attractions.
The beach of Bunken is a good and sandy beach with a few stones and shells. High dunes shelter the Kattegat beach. It is very suitable for children because of its calm, shallow and pure water as well as small waves.
The beach has been awarded with the Blue Flag and furthermore, it is traffic-free.
Here the opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, surfing, walking and fishing are good.
The beautiful dune plantation Bunken Klitplantage, which surrounds Bunken, is characterized by moor with dunes and plantation with sitka spruce, Scotch pine and mountain pine among others. The plantation is located right next to the impressive and giant drifting dune Råbjerg Mile. The sand hill contains about 4 million cubic metres of sand and moves several metres towards northeast each year because of the sand drift.
Furthermore, the landscape of Bunken offers plantations, dune landscapes, moor areas, the Skaggerak and the Kattegat.
The lovely and natural surroundings provide favourable living conditions for many animals, which can be observed in the area.
No more than 3 km from Bunken golfers can make use of a challenging, 18-hole course with many firs, which belongs to the golf club Hvide Klit. Here you will find a driving range, a putting green, an exercise bunker and a Par-3 course with 6 holes.
The area is suitable for fishing, swimming, surfing, playing tennis and minigolf, walking, bicycling and horseback riding. A bicycle path leads directly from Bunken and all the way up to Skagen.
From more harbours in the area you can join a sail and see everything from the water.
Skagen Strand Badeland in Hulsig is a 500 square metres subtropical aquapark with water slides, water canons, a cave and a Turkish bath (7 km).
Råbjerg Mile near Bunken is Denmark's largest drifting dune. The sand hill is app. 40 m high, moves up to 15 m each year and creates a miniature desert southwest of Skagen. The sand drift by the dune has exposed Råbjerg Stenene - a stone plain, which has emerged because the wind moves the fine sand of Råbjerg Mile and leaves the larger stones behind (2 km).
Farm Fun near Ålbæk is an animal park with a play land. Come close to the inhabitants, f.x. pigs, cows, sheep, kangaroos, emus, ponies, razorbacks, rabbits, goats, guinea pigs, peacocks and lamas, or try out the fun moon cars, the swings and the bouncing cushion (5 km).
In Tuen near Tversted you can visit the eagle sanctuary Ørnereservatet. Experience the aviation of the magnificent birds of prey (f.x. peregrine falcon, gerfalcon, goshawk, golden eagle and white-tailed eagle) and watch them being fed in the air (12 km).
The church Den Tilsandede Kirke is buried in sand, and its tower rises from the sand in the scenic plantation area. The immense sand drift is the cause of the burial of the church (14 km).
In Skagen you can experience the beautiful town environments with the idyllic yellow houses, enjoy the atmosphere in the vivid fishing harbour and the marina, see what inspired the famous Skagen painters and visit Grenen, the top of Denmark, where the Kattegat and the Skagerrak meet (19 km).
The aquarium Nordsømuseet in Hirtshals contains Europe's largest saltwater aquarium: Ocenariet, which holds 4.5 million litres of water. At Nordsømuseet you can experience about 60 different fish species from the North Sea, and you can even touch some of them (33 km).
In the amusement park Fårup Sommerland & Aquapark you can try out more than 50 interesting entertainments for the whole family, including Denmark's largest aquapark and Denmark's longest switchback Falken (77 km).
