The holiday area Kaldred is a tranquil and cosy holiday home area on the heath plain Bregninge. Kaldred is located in scenic surroundings by the bay ‘Sejerø-bugten’ on the western part of Sealand, near Vesterlyng - the largest moor area on Sealand. The beautiful conservation area is a popular and scenic excursion spot.
The area invites stays in nature, where you can walk, swim, fish, study birds and experience relics like grave mounds and cromlechs.
It is possible to buy groceries in the area. In Kalundborg you will find an interesting harbour atmosphere, a very special medieval quarter with narrow alleys and well-preserved half-timbered house, Denmark’s only church with 5 spires, a cosy town centre with restaurants and shops as well as more sights (13 km).
Just 10 minutes drive from Kaldred you will find one of northeastern Sealand’s best and most child-friendly beaches - Vesterlyng. By the preserved moor Vesterlyng you will find a kilometres long bathing beach with fine sand, dunes and lovely bathing water. Although the beach i located in a conservation area, it is open to the public. The water is shallow by the water's edge, the waves are small and therefore, the beach is very suitable for children (7 km).
A varying nature with fields, salt meadows, small lakes, dunes, juniper bushes, heather and areas with wild herbs surround the holiday area Kaldred. The conservation area Vesterlyng is the largest continuous moor area on Sealand, where the animals are grazing freely. The area is a low area, where heather and grass have grown into each other on the small sand dunes. Among other things you can enjoy orchids here. The scenic route Margueritruten leads right past this area.
The bird sanctuary 'Saltbæk Vig' is a coastal lagoon, which is covered with reed in the wet dune hollow. The area is located just a few kilometres from Kaldred.
Tissø is Denmark's fourth largest lake and covers an area of 13 square kilometres. Here the nature is characterized by fields and level moraine landscapes towards west and elevated hilly and varying landscapes towards east. Furthermore, the area has a rich birdlife (16 km).
You will find 2 marked walking paths on the preserved moor Vesterlyng. The green route leads you past a long barrow, through the forest Mareskoven and past a couple of bronze age mounds, and if you follow the brown route through the plantation, you will pass a drifting dune and reach the beach.
You will find good angling opportunities along the western Sealand shores and in the Put & Take fishponds of the area. If you wish to go deep-sea fishing, you can sail out on a fishing vessel from Havnsø (8 km).
The area is rich in golf courses, and you can test the 18-hole course of Kalundborg Golfklub, which offers challenges for both beginners and experienced players. The course is located in scenic surroundings (12 km).
It is possible to rent riding horses in the area.
Divers can search for finds from an old stone age settlement about 50 metres offshore by Ordrup Næs (22 km towards north).
At the agricultural museum Birkendegaard you can experience living rooms, kitchens and guestrooms with intact interior, workshops with tools as well as agricultural machines from the old days (6 km).
Havnsø (9 km) is located in the bay Nekselø Bugt and has always been an important ferry berth. Enjoy the atmosphere her, buy fresh fish or god with the ferry to the traffic-free islands Nekselø and Sejerø. Nekselø offers a scenic and interesting landscape and a rich animal life. Sejerø has Denmark’s mildest climate, a hilly landscape, many small bathing beaches as well as more passage graves and a monolith.
Visit the mediaeval town Kalundborg with cobbled narrow alleys and well-preserved half-timbered houses (13 km).
The castle Dragsholm Slot in Hørve is Denmark’s oldest castle. The primeval fortress from the early mediaeval times has a dungeon and is associated with many ghost stories. A scenic palace garden belongs to the castle (19 km).
In the zoo Odsherreds Zoo Dyrepark by Asnæs you can experience 600 animals, divided on 100 species (24 km).
The garden Birkegårdens Haver by Tågerup is a beautiful experience and a joy for both eyes and nose. Enjoy an English, a Japanese and a Danish garden as well as an animal pen with domestic animals (29 km).
The amusement park Sommerland Sjælland offers more than 60 activities for the whole family: A cosy canoe trip, a wild ride in the switchback or a visit to Sealand’s largest water world (32 km).
The passage grave by Højby is one of the best preserved in Denmark. The passage grave has 2 chambers and has a diameter of 26 metres. The exhibition from the excavation can be seen on the nearby Stenstrup Museum (36 km).
