Solrød Strand by the bay 'Køge Bugt' is a cosy holiday house area, which is surrounded by beach, forest, meadow, limestone quarry and small villages with small houses, churches, farms and village ponds.
Solrød Strand is situated only 40 km from Copenhagen, and the train (S-tog) leaves the station of the small town many times an hour and takes you to the capital.
A couple of km behind the shore you will find the village Solrød, where you can see 8 bronze age mounds among other things.
Solrød Strand is situated in an area, which is rich in sights in the shape of interesting coastlines, lovely nature, idyllic harbours and a rich, artistic life.
You will find good shopping opportunities in the area, i.a. in the shopping centre 'Solrød Centret', as well as more good restaurants.
Opposite Solrød Strand you can make use of a wide and sandy beach with dunes and lyme grass. Here you will also find good conditions for both bathing and sailing.
Just north of here you will find the beach 'Karlstrup Strandpark' - one of Sealand's best bathing beaches - is situated. The beach is wide and has a slightly sloping sandy bottom, which makes the beach very suitable for children.
The forest 'Karlstrup Skov' is a lovely and recreational area, which contains various kinds of forest, marsh areas and a 30 hectares limestone quarry with a 14 m deep lake. Paths lead you all the way around the lake, and from here you can enjoy the sight of the impressive formations. 'Karlstrup Skov' ends out in 'Trylleskoven' (the magic forest) - a conifer tree forest with 'spellbinding' and crooked pine trees, heather and a large population of squirrel.
By 'Karlstrup Standpark' you can experience a large number of migrating birds every spring and late summer.
By the lake 'Stauning Sø', close to the village Solrød, you can equally experience a rich birdlife.
Just south of Strøby Egede you will find the area 'Gjorslev Bøgeskov' - an old beechwood with i.a. 55 grave mounds and a number of good walking paths (17 km).
Experience the cliff 'Stevns Klint' (36 km towards south) with the chalk-white, 40 m high cliffs. Enjoy the sight of the magnificent cliff from the many viewpoints.
In Solrød you can visit the swimmingbaths of the town, which contains i.a. jacuzzi, baby pool, health cabin, sauna and solarium.
The limestone quarry 'Karlstrup Kalkgrav' which forms a hole of 455 x 500 m, provides you with an interesting insight into Denmark's geological past. Here you can go treasure hunting and with a little luck find well-preserved fossils (2 km).
Golf players will find good opportunities in the area, where the course of Solrød Golfklub - a 9-hole Pay & Play course, Køge Golf Klub (9 km), Golf Club Harekær (10 km), Skovbo Golfklub by Borup (24 km) and Golfklubben Hedeland (27 km) are available.
You will find good fishing opportunities in the area, f.x. along the shore, on the sea or in one of the Put & Take fishponds of the area.
The lovely, long beach, the limestone quarry and the beautiful forests invite bicycle trips, walks and horseback rides.
By the village Solrød you can experience more grave mounds from the bronze age.
In the northern outskirts of Solrød Strand you can visit the legendary, 300-years old and still well-run inn 'Korporalskroen'.
The old grocer's shop 'Møllebækkens Købmandsgård' by Karlslunde appears like in 1908 and functions both as a shop and an active museum with nostalgic products (3 km).
Visit the market town Køge, which offers a cosy, old quarter with beautiful houses from the 15th century, an evocative marina, the art museum 'Køge Skitsesamling', the museum of local history 'Køge Museum' and the toy museum 'Køge Legetøjs Museum', a beautiful church, a pedestrian street, marked days and good restaurants (9 km).
Greve Museum is an interesting and untraditional museum of local history with many activities and exhibitions (9 km).
The castle 'Gjorslev Slot' is build out of limestone from the cliff 'Stevns Klint'. A moat and a lovely park in English style surround the castle. You can take part in a guided tour on the castle (22 km).
Don't miss the greatest tourist attraction of Stevns; the 15 km long and 41 m high chalk cliff 'Stevns Klint'. 'Flagbanken' is the cliff's most dramatic spot and offers a unique view. The nature centre 'Stevns Natur Center' is situated by 'Flagbanken' (app. 36 km).
The capital Copenhagen (40 km) offers a vivid culture life, museums, music, theatres, galleries, the pedestrian street 'Strøget' and sights like Tivoli, Planetarium, the castle Rosenborg Slot with the crown jewels, Copenhagen Zoo etc.
Bonbonland in Holme-Olstrup offers more than 70 activities for the whole family, i.a. 'Vildsvinet' - Denmark's largest roller coaster, a rafting course, carousels, circus, children's theatre, a pirate lake and much more (46 km).
