Skaven Strand has a small charming marina and fishing harbour, and here you can bye fresh fish every day. Enjoy the atmosphere in the small harbour, where you will also find a restaurant with a view of the water. The view of the inlet is incredible beautiful and varies according to the weather.
Skaven Strand has a grocer and a couple of restaurants.
In the area around Skaven Strand you can experience the genuine Western Jutland nature - unspoiled, wild and quiet - along the many paths of the area.
You will find a sandy beach by Skaven Strand. It is possible to swim all along the coast of the inlet, but the beaches are not as wide as those of the North Sea. The water is shallow and therefore the beach is ideal for families with small children. Cars are not allowed on the beach.
The inlet is very suitable for windsurfing here, and Skaven Strand formerly hosted the windsurfing championships.
The North Sea and f.x. the beach of Nymindegab is situated about 25 km from Skaven Strand. Here you will find the long fine and sandy beaches with dunes and Blue Flag.
By Skaven Strand you can enjoy the wild and unspoiled Jutland nature along the inlet or along a nature path, which leads you all the way to Bork Havn.
The beach by Skaven Strand is a sandy beach, but generally the coast is characterized by rush, brush and forest of reeds, which attract birds and provide the place with a rich bird life.
Dejbjerg is situated just north of Skaven Strand, and here the nature is quite unique. The undulating terrain is has forest areas and stretches of moorland. From the highest points in the area you have a good view over the inlet.
The stream Skjern Å is one of Denmark's most abounding in water and has many windings. From the bird tower by the mouth of Skjern Å you have a good view of the river valley. It is peaceful, quiet and idyllic.
Tipperne is a preserved bird sanctuary, situated on the peninsular Tipperhalvøen in the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord. Birds from all of Scandinavia stay here a while on their way between winter quarters and breeding areas.
Here you can have lovely nature experiences along the many bicycle and walking paths. Enjoy f.x. the silence and the unspoiled nature on the path between Skaven Strand and Fahlen.
The inlet Ringkøbing Fjord is one of the most famous surf areas in northern Europe as the conditions are ideal. Skaven Strand is in particular popular as the windsurfing championships were formerly held here. The large shallow areas and the safe surroundings make it both easy and fun to learn to surf here. You can rent equipment for surfing at the surf school in Bork Havn.
This area is ideal for anglers, who can throw the line out in the inlet Ringkøbing Fjord as well as in the streams and lakes of the area.
In the viking harbour Bork Vikingehavn you will be set back 1,000 years. Experience the viking ships in the harbour, the viking farm and the exhibition. The area is vitalized during the high season.
The museum 'Fahl Kro' shows a new exhibition every year with nature art of various artists.
The old well-preserved watermill in Bundsbæk is one of the few preserved watermills in western Jutland. You can also see a forge and a bakery here.
The wind mill 'Skjern Vindmølle' is one of the few functioning wind mills, where grain is still milled to flour.
In the iron age village 'Dejbjerg Jernalder' you can follow the people of the iron age in their daily chores. The exhibition, belong to the village, tells about life in Western Jutland during the iron age.
In the house 'Hattemagerhuset' in Tarm you can experience the daily life in a farmworker house around the year 1900.
The farm 'Gåsemandens Gård' is an original, gently renovated moor farm from the year 1789.
Visit the old and pretty provincial town Ringkøbing. The town is characterized by its houses with red tiled roofs and its old cobbled streets (40 km).
LEGOLAND, app. 65 km from Skaven Strand, is build out of 50 million toy bricks. The park offers a number of opportunities for family activities.
In Givskud you can visit a combined lion park and zoo. Meet with more than 1,000 animals from the whole world on the 60 hectares large area.
Visit the town Esbjerg with the art museum, the famous sculpture by the sea 'Mennesket ved Havet', the galleries a.s.o. From Esbjerg you can sail to the island Fanø in app. 10 min. The old, idyllic urban environment with it's characteristic, thatched roofs, the scenic nature and the exceptional bathing beaches make Fanø an excursion spot worth visiting.
