Thyborøn is situated on the top of a narrow tongue - right between the North Sea and the inlet 'Nissum Fjord' - in the northern part of Western Jutland. In the cosy holiday town you will find a large fishing harbour, an evocative marina, good shopping possibilities, more restaurants and many interesting sights. There is a regular ferry service between Thyborøn and Agger Tange, leaving many times a day. Sea, inlet and unique bird areas surround Thyborøn. Here you will find peace, quiet, high sky and fresh air from the North Sea. The area mainly appeals to families with children, anglers and bird enthusiasts.
The nearest larger towns are Thisted (48 km), Hanstholm (60 km) and Skive (78 km).
Close to the harbour in Thyborøn you will find the lovely child-friendly beach with a sandy bottom. The beach is sheltered by tongues, breakwaters and the small dunes behind it. The water quality is good, which the Blue Flag bears witness of, and the beach invites various beach and water activities. After the stay on the beach you can take a walk along the esplanade.
Flying a kite or a model plane is a popular activity on the beach. Furthermore, the beach is ideal for walks all year round.
Pure, unspoiled and unique nature areas surround the holiday house area. The varying nature areas with i.a. moor areas and dune plantations invite walks and bicycle rides - f.x. along the waters edge. On the way you will be able to enjoy some great views over the water and the area.
At the tongue 'Harboøre Tange' (between Thyborøn and Harboøre) you will find a large preserved wetlands, where you can observe a rich bird and animal life.
If you take the ferry from Thyborøn to the tongue 'Agger Tange' you will experience a seal colony on the way.
Agger Tange, on the other side of the inlet, is also a bird Eldorado. The preserved and shallow areas, the large lagoon lakes and the tidal areas on the eastern side of the tongue provide good breeding conditions and plenty of food for the water birds. The tongue is also an important resting place for many species of birds on spring and autumn flights.
Thyborøn is a paradise for anglers! You can fish from the shore, from the tongue 'Harboøre Tange', from the breakwaters, in the canals, by the harbour, on the sea, onboard a fishing vessel, or in the Put & Take fishponds of the hinterland.
Sails on the inlet or on the sea are arranged from the harbour of Harboøre throughout the summer.
Golf players can test the courses of 'Lemvig Golfklub' (24 km), 'Struer Golfklub' (48 km), 'Nordvestjysk Golfklub' in Thisted (48 km) and 'Han Herreds Golfklub' in Fjerritslev (90 km).
Furthermore, the area offers good surf opportunities.
'Kystcentret Thyborøn' is the largest experience and communication centre of the west coast. Here the whole family can experiment with waves, currents, tide, wind, quicksand and floods.
'Sneglehuset' is an entirely 'normal' house, which has been decorated with millions of sea and snail shells - both inside and outside.
In 'Jyllands Akvariet' you can stroke a shark on the head, hold a crab in your hand, touch skulls and bones from whales, go onboard a fishing vessel and see a large collection of amber.
The fortress 'Thyborøn Fæstningen' used to be one of Denmark's largest fortifications and the remains consist of 64 bunkers from World War 2.
'Thyborøn Ølsamling' is a private collection of more than 7,000 beers from 74 countries and more than 3,000 brewery souvenirs.
'Fiskeri- og Redningsmuseet' informs of the history of the area within fishing and life-saving service.
'De røde barakker' contains a maritime exhibition, a glass factory, a candy factory and a café.
Go with the ferry from Thyborøn too Agger, which forms a contrast to the other Liim Fiord towns with its colonist style and rough nature. 'De sorte huse' in Agger shows an exhibition about the story of the coast protection (12 km from the ferry berth.
In the amusement park 'Vejlby Sommerpark' you can fish, rent riding horses, drive on front bikes, play minigolf and visit the pet zoo of the park (16 km).
'Jesperhus Blomsterpark' on the Liim Fiord island Mors is Scandinavia¿s largest flower park with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo with i.a. beautiful tropical birds as well as pirate and play land and water world with many activities (53 km).
The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See among other things how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (74 km).
